As Tampa prepared to host Super Bowl LV, major development projects raced to completion ahead of the February 2021 kickoff. The city’s economic development team worked with developers and contractors to maintain construction timelines safely during the pandemic.
Several key mixed-use districts benefited from this deadline: Midtown Tampa opened its dual-flag Element and Aloft hotel with rooftop bar Sal Y Mar; the JW Marriott officially opened just before Christmas as Water Street Tampa’s anchor property; and The Heights district opened its food hall and restaurants within Armature Works.
